Ruby Ray is one of the original San Francisco punk photographers, first publishing her images in the seminal punk magazines Search & Destroy and RE/Search from 1977 to 1982. After relocating to New York City, she produced visuals for the Saqqara Dogs live shows and appeared on Andy Warhol’s Fifteen Minutes, one of MTV’s earliest series. Since 2008, Ray has had solo exhibitions of her work in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Denver. And her photography is part of the Museum of Sex’s show Punk Lust, now on view at various locations in the NYC subway and bus systems. Her monograph Kalifornia Kool was published earlier this year.
